What This Test Measures
Adrenal androgen precursor; reflects adrenal function; often tested in adrenal fatigue workup.
Preparation
TIMING: Draw in the morning β DHEA-S has mild diurnal variation (higher AM). Avoid testing when acutely stressed if possible, as chronic stress depletes DHEA. The functional medicine community aims for upper-normal range for age, roughly 200β350 Β΅g/dL for women and 350β500 Β΅g/dL for men, or levels optimal in oneβs 20s.
